Through Pleasure and Pain- Internet Friend Friday #1

Hello, readers!!! I'd like to welcome you to our VERY FIRST Internet Friend Friday! I'm so excited to do this with all of you and I can't wait to see who will post next month. If you'd like to post in March, head over to the Co-Post Page and let's talk. It's never too early!

Today, the post is submitted by one of my dear friends: Mayson Cambron! I first met her at my discipleship group, and Mayson is on fire for the Lord in a way that I have never seen before. Guys, you're going to be blown away by this post, and I know you'll shower her with sweet comments to let her know. *winks*

So, without further ado... "Through Pleasure and Pain" by Miss Mayson Cambron!

What does the word trust mean? According to Merriam Webster's dictionary, trust means “assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something.”

Every morning, we trust that the sun will rise in the morning and set in the evening. Every time we walk outside, we trust that there will be air to breathe. Every time we talk to a dear friend or family member, we trust that they will speak truth back to us. But let me ask you this…

Why is it so hard to trust God?

If you’re anything like me, it's so easy to praise God when life is good. On Sundays and Wednesdays, putting our hands in the air and singing out to Almighty God seems so simple, because when life is going well, there are so many things to praise Him for. But what about when life gets hard?

As humans, the second something doesn’t go our way, we immediately begin to doubt God, even when He showed us His faithfulness just minutes before. In Luke 8, we read of how Jesus calms the storm. This is a story we have heard thousands of times, yet through every moment of doubt, I find it to be a perfect reminder of His perfect promise.

One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.

The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”

He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.

“Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”

- Luke 8:22-25 NIV

We already know that the disciples walked with Jesus and witnessed His faithfulness on a daily basis, from His messages to His miracles, so when Jesus said they were going to the other side of the lake, they went without question. After all, Jesus did say they would make it to the other side.

Then the storm came- strong winds, high waves, and quick currents soon overwhelmed their hearts and minds, and they became fearful. Yet as soon as they called on Jesus’ name, all became calm. “Where is your faith?” He asked them. Wow, I’m not sure about you, but that hits me right in the heart.

I am guilty of doubt. Here’s some fantastic news though… Jesus has already promised you eternal life if you have placed your faith in Him. That means that He is always with us, through every doubt and in every storm. He promises us that if we abide in Him, He will take us to the Kingdom of God.

He did not promise the journey would be easy, but He did promise He would lead us through it. The disciples forgot His promise. When Jesus told them to get into the boat, He clearly said “let’s go to the other side.” That means they would make it to the other side. A promise that they would survive the journey, not a promise the journey would be easy. Why did the disciples fear for their lives? They were filled with fear because they focused on the situation and not on their Savior.

It's important to remember that Jesus saves nothing less than His best for us, but sometimes it's so hard to keep sight of the fact that our idea of “best” is different from God’s idea of “best.”

Cling to the promise of deliverance. Remember that if He is faithful on the good days, we can trust Him to be faithful in the bad. Under clear skies and cloudy, we know that we can trust that Jesus is with us in the battle and in the storm. If we can trust Him with our eternity, we can trust Him with our storms.

Wow. We often need a reminder that God's ways are faithful and we can hold fast to His promises. He will always bring us safe to shore, even when the journey isn't easy.

There's no challenge this week, but I'd like you to remember that "Jesus is with us in the battle and the storm."

Thank you, Mayson! This was a beautiful reminder of God's faithfulness. I'm so happy you posted- love you, girl!
